Visit Alto Tâmega e Barroso

Alto Tâmega e Barroso kicked off its participation in the 25th edition of Xantar – International Gastronomic Tourism Fair, which is taking place in Ourense, Spain. The event started today and runs until Sunday 27 October, with the best gastronomic and wine destinations from Portugal, Spain and Latin America taking part.

Over the next few days, the Alto Tâmega e Barroso Intermunicipal Community (CIMAT) will have the opportunity to showcase the best that this territory has to offer. Today, the day dedicated to Alto Tâmega e Barroso, a table of the region’s endogenous products was promoted, and over the next few days you’ll be able to taste other specialities from each of the six municipalities, as well as find out about the main events.

Tomorrow will be dedicated to Chaves and Boticas, with tastings of the famous Pastel de Chaves and the promotion of the XXVII Boticas Pig Gastronomic Fair, followed by a gastronomic tasting.

On Saturday, Montalegre will be tasting Barroso ham and other local products, followed by Ribeira de Pena with a wine tasting.

On the last day, Sunday, it will be Vila Pouca de Aguiar’s turn to present the ‘Chestnut, Kid and Mushroom Gastronomic Exhibition’ and taste products from the Terras de Aguiar, ending with a tasting of regional products from Valpaços.

The presence of Alto Tâmega e Barroso at Xantar reaffirms the region’s commitment to promoting quality gastronomy and sustainable tourism, highlighting the cultural wealth and natural resources that make it a unique destination.
Representing CIMAT at the opening ceremony was Jorge Pires, Deputy Mayor of Valpaços, who presented the region. Also present was Jorge Fidalgo, councillor for Montalegre Town Council, Alberto Diegas, Executive Secretary of CIMAT, as well as tourism experts from the municipalities of Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
