Inaugurated in 2020 by the Secretary of State for the Interior Valorization, Isabel Ferreira, the Tourism Post of Alto Tâmega e Barroso has focused its attention on attracting diversified tourism, increasing the permanence rate of visitors, and serving as a complement to the Tourism Posts already existing in each municipality, concentrating and disseminating tourist information about all.
Although it is located in Chaves, this infrastructure is part of the strategic plan of tourism development for the region, developed by the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega CIMAT together with the six municipalities of the territory (Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços, and Vila Pouca de Aguiar).
The building is practically self-sustainable with an emphasis on wood and glass in its construction, integrating harmoniously with the garden space (Jardim do Tabolado) where it is inserted. Inside the building, tourists have at their disposal several interactive multimedia equipments designed to interactively show the region to those who visit us. In parallel, this space also has an area for gastronomic tasting, where it is possible to try the magnificent products that the region produces.
Since its opening, the Alto Tâmega e Barroso Tourism Office has already been visited by more than 25 thousand tourists, 13,622 of which during the last year.
These numbers demonstrate the work that the region has been doing in terms of promoting this territory that is increasingly asserting itself as a tourist destination. An excellent example of projects that have benefited from European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).
