Alfarela de Jales Pillory
por pessoa
Until the mid-19th century, the town of Alfarela, since medieval times, had always been defined by its geostrategic location and the region’s mining potential. The pillory, erected at the beginning of the Modern Period, is the architectural element par excellence of this municipality, defined by the 1514 charter granted by King Manuel. The monument’s coat of arms respects the traditional iconography of the Portuguese monarchy – a shield with seven castles around five corners, topped by an open crown.
