GIAHS Territory Observatory Network – Secrets of the GIAHS Territory Observatory Network – The Warrior’s Look – Alto do Castro – Covas do Barroso

Here, in Alto do Castro, you can see the entire agricultural valley of Covas do Barroso. The parish is made up of three villages: Covas do Barroso, the parish seat, Romaínho and Muro, located in this valley, protected to the north by the Serra da Sombra and to the south by the Serra do Pinheiro. It is due to its geographical location, surrounded by mountains, that it gets its name, because when seen from Alto do Castro, it looks like a grave. In territorial terms, it is the fourth largest parish in the municipality, occupying a total area of 29.6 km2.
