The Town Hall is considered to be the highest institution in the city of Valpaços. The Town Hall began to be built in October 1889, for which purpose the council took out a loan of 25 contos de Reis. The project was designed and managed by engineering officer Augusto Xavier Teixeira. Construction took around two and a half years.
