Jales Field Miner’s Cavalete
por pessoa
An iconic element of the last Portuguese gold mine which, between the 1930s and 1992, explored more than 600 metres underground and was a unique driver of the region’s economy. The trestle or winch of the Santa Bárbara shaft was part of the structures used to transport miners and ore from the surface to the underground exploration galleries. Jales is considered to be the most productive deposit in Portugal, with 25 tonnes of gold mined in sixteen underground galleries.
