Dornelas Pillory

Classified as a Property of Public Interest, the pillory is a symbol of the former administrative autonomy of the now defunct Couto de Dornelas, which was granted to Dornelas as a Couto. Located in Largo do Cruzeiro, next to the parish church and the current Junta de Freguesia building, which corresponds to the town’s old jail, the Dornelas pillory possibly dates back to the Manueline era and is part of the so-called pine cone pillories, one of the most common types from this period.
