Covas do Barroso Cross

The Cross of Covas do Barroso is one of the most beautiful in the county. It has a granite platform, the plinth, with decorated faces, has the inscription ‘PASSIO DOMINI/NOSTRI JESUS/CERESTI ESTA SE F/ MDCCLXXVI’ at the top. The column ends in a composite capital, surmounted by a globe topped by a cross, where the iconography of the sculptural representations stands out: on the front face a pieta, with Our Lady holding Christ and on the other St Anthony, standing, with the Child sitting on a book in one arm and a cross in the other.
