Covas do Barroso Community Oven
por pessoa
This is a granite building with a slab roof resting on three round arches. Inside, to the right of the entrance, there is a marquee and, above the span of the third arch, a masonry platform that supports two ovens. This oven is used to bake the ‘broas’ that are distributed, after the religious services in honour of the souls, in ‘carolos’ on the day of Carolo de Santo António.
António. In times gone by, this space played an important role in village sociability, the so-called ‘people’s café’, where people gathered during the evenings, and was also the hostel for the poor, beggars and pilgrims passing through the village, who stayed overnight.
