Forum on Tourism, Sustainability and Growth of the Interior attracted over two hundred participants

Last 27th of March (Monday), in the Casino of Pedras Salgadas – Vila Pouca de Aguiar took place the “Forum Tourism, Sustainability and Growth of the Interior”. A joint organization of the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega e Barroso (CIMAT), CoLAB/AquaValor and AECorgo.

The opening was in charge of Alberto Machado, President of the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega e Barroso (CIMAT) and host of the event, as Mayor of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, followed by Fernando Queiroga, President of AquaValor – Centre of Valorisation and Transfer of Water Technology. Also in this panel was António Joaquim Guedes, President of the Business Association of Corgo (AECorgo). The Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Nuno Fazenda, could not be physically present, however, he presented his contributions through a recorded intervention sent for this purpose.

The theme “Tourism in Alto Tâmega e Barroso” was the motto for the second panel which had Rui Ferreira, from the company Brand 22, as moderator. Ramiro Gonçalves, First Executive Secretary of CIMAT, started by presenting the instantiation of the Tourism Strategic Plan for Alto Tâmega e Barroso. This panel was characterized, still, by a more informal conversation with some of the bloggers/journalists that integrated the Press Trip that travelled through the territory during the weekend, with the purpose of giving their vision of the region.

The last panel of the morning was attended by representatives of some CIM’s of the Interior (Alto Alentejo, Ave, Douro, Tâmega and Sousa and Terras de Trás-os-Montes) to address good practices in tourism implemented by them.

The afternoon opened with the theme “Tendencies of Tourism in the Interior” which counted with the moderation of Ramiro Gonçalves and had as speakers Luís Pedro Martins, President of Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal, who presented the relative numbers to tourism in the territory of Alto Tâmega and Barroso regarding the year 2022, and Raquel Rodrigues from Tourism Association of Porto.

The high moment of the day was the attribution of the 3rd title of Ambassador of Alto Tâmega e Barroso to Father Fontes. The trophy was delivered by Fátima Fernandes, Mayor of Montalegre, accompanied by the other five mayors of the region and the other two ambassadors who already integrate this network since last year.

The last interventions were made by Alberto Machado and Isabel Ferreira, Secretary of State for Regional Development, who, unable to be present, sent a video.

This forum also counted with some musical moments by Maike Calvão.

To remind that this initiative appeared in the scope of the project “Alto Tâmega – Tourism 4.0”, in order to present the results reached with this project, having still been stage for the sharing of the evolution of the trends of tourism in the interior of the country, namely, the work that was developed in Alto Tâmega e Barroso, in the other CIM’s and which are the future perspectives.
