Ribeira de Pena | 25th April Celebrations
The municipality of Ribeira de Pena is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Freedom Day, a historic milestone that symbolises the Carnation Revolution, a unique event in Portuguese history, characterised by the absence of bloodshed.
To celebrate this emblematic date, the Municipality of Ribeira de Pena has developed a diverse cultural programme. From 18 April to 2 May, an exhibition entitled “Memories of a Recent Time” will be on display at the School Museum, offering visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the history of 25 April.
On 20 and 25 April, the Ribeira de Pena Municipal Auditorium will host a free screening of the film “Bloodless Revolution”, a film that portrays the historical events of the Carnation Revolution.
On 24 April, starting at 9.30pm, the Ribeira de Pena Auditorium will host a play entitled “The Night of 24 April.”
On April 25 itself, the programme will include a series of remarkable events, starting at 11am with the Shared Guard of Honour in the Town Hall Square. This will be followed by the Solemn Session at the School Museum, followed by a tribute to Dr Mário Soares, an emblematic figure of Portuguese democracy.
Join us in this programme and come and celebrate the values of freedom, democracy and justice that were won through the Carnation Revolution.
