Our Artists – Fernando Castro
Skill, dedication and a lot of patience are part of the particularities of the art of transforming and creating from raw materials, especially wood. This has been the guiding motto that has motivated and fascinated Fernando Castro. Since 2011, his creative work has allowed him to transcend his individual subjectivity and establish a dialogue with others, sharing his experience through unique pieces.
The author’s first solo exhibition is part of the ‘Our Artists’ cycle, which will be on show until 29 October in the Municipal Library’s Multipurpose Room, with the opening scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday), 3 October, at 17:30.
Fernando Castro has been a teacher in Chaves since 1983, and in response to the need to express himself through art, in 2011 he began, out of aptitude and taste, the path that introduced him to sculpture, carpentry and joinery, resulting in the creation of works in wood, in which memories, feelings, ideas and images materialise.
Art has allowed him to project his own values and meanings onto the world, building meaning into his own existence by creating pieces with a connection to human nature and the artist’s origins.
The exhibition, which is free to enter, can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 9h30 am. to 1h00 pm. and 2h00 pm. to 6h00 pm. and Saturday from 9h30 am. to 1h00 pm.
