Our Artists 2024 – Mariana Parasense

The Multipurpose Room of the Chaves Municipal Library kicks off the 2024 Cycle “Our Artists” with an exhibition of photography and cinematography by Mariana Parasense. Scheduled to open on 4 January (Thursday) at 5.30pm, the exhibition will be open to the public until 31 January.

Mariana Parasense was born in Chaves and began taking photographs at an early age. At the age of 13 she began to explore the world of digital photography and at the age of 15 she discovered her passion for cinema, following this area of study in higher education.

Within the film industry, she continued to be involved in photography, having worked as a director of photography, in post-production and also as a director. Her film works include “Moving Like Waves”, a video dance awarded by the Portuguese Film Academy in 2016 with a Sophia student prize (3rd place) and some international projection, as well as the video art “Karoline”, which has already been shown at the Porto Femme Festival’s “Crises” exhibition in 2021.

In 2019 she founded the international film festival Kalajoki Film Fest in Finland while she was doing European volunteering.

Through photography and film, the young artist from Flavi seeks to bring an artistic sensibility that is very much her own.

The exhibition, organised by the municipality, is free to enter and can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 09:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, and Saturday from 09:30 to 13:00.

The event is finished.
