MONTALEGRE | Rye Festival

Pitões das Júnias, one of the most emblematic parishes in the municipality of Montalegre, is hosting another CENTEAR for three days (2 to 4 August), an event organised by the ‘Recreational and Cultural Association – O Fiadeiro de Pitões’. The aim of this event is to ‘revive old agricultural traditions, strengthen the affective bonds of the community and provide moments of learning, leisure and fraternisation, in which locals and visitors have the opportunity to connect with the historical and gastronomic roots of Pitões das Júnias’. CENTEAR, the rye festival, includes three days of returning to the old ways and customs, from the harvesting of the harvest, the carting to the threshing floor, the threshing with the traditional threshing machines and, finally, the thatching of the roof of the community mill.
