Chaves | Two thousand years of history to tell…
More than 2,000 years of local history told through the identity of the town. This is the motto of the new exhibition of archaeological and architectural pieces that are part of the Flavian heritage and that influenced and inspired the symbolism used in the new identity mark: Chaves Município. The exhibition, open to the public at the Chaves Municipal Historical Archive, will be inaugurated on 17 May, as part of International Museum Day and Museum Night, this year under the motto ‘Museums, Education and Research’.
The municipality wanted to celebrate this date with this temporary exhibition, also of an educational nature, which joins the archaeological site that already exists in the Historical Archives. The aim is to boost and publicise this museum space, which is also of great importance, as well as displaying some of the artefacts that inspired the creation of the new image of Chaves.
Thus, the permanent exhibition at the site, which refers to the archaeological work carried out in 2007 as part of the reconstruction of the building, will be complemented by interactive elements – such as three-dimensional models of some pieces – on a touch screen, so that visitors can interact with the objects in a virtual way, as well as some pieces designed in 3D so that visitors can enjoy a sensory experience.
Bearing in mind the rich and fascinating historical past of the city of Chaves, which we want to make known to the youngest, this educational exhibition provides scheduled and organised visits for the various stages of education, moments of discovery and cultural understanding.
The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for 6pm, with a guided tour by the municipality’s archaeological technicians, in order to safeguard the historical and archaeological heritage present at the site.
The Chaves Municipal Historical Archive was chosen as the venue for this exhibition ‘Identidade Flaviense’ (Flavian Identity), considering that its structure includes various chronological elements that are part of the Chaves Municipality brand.
