Chaves | Entertainment and Tradition

Throughout July and August, the Municipality of Chaves is organising a series of cultural events dedicated to folklore and singing groups𝗙, which will take place on Wednesdays at 9.30 pm in Largo General Silveira.

The initiative brings together folk dance troupes, singing groups and cavaquinho ensembles from across the municipality, offering a varied programme that celebrates folk traditions, promotes intangible cultural heritage and recognises the important role played by local associations in preserving the identity of Chaves.

In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy summer evenings filled with music, dance and the customs that form part of the municipality’s history and culture.

The series begins on Wednesday 15 July with performances by the Vila Medieval de Santo Estêvão Folk Group and the Alegres Tradições group from Vilela do Tâmega. 𝗚𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗲̂𝘃 𝗮̃ 𝗼 and the 𝗚 𝗿𝘂 𝗽𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰̧𝗼̃𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗱𝗼 𝗧𝗮̂𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮.

The programme continues as follows:

• 𝟭𝟱 𝗱𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗹𝗵𝗼 – Vila Medieval de Santo Estêvão Folk Group and Alegres Tradições de Vilela do Tâmega Group;

• 22 July – Traditional Singing Group of the Loivos Music Band and the ‘Faiões Sempre a Brilhar’ Cavaquinho Group;

• 𝟮𝟵 𝗱𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗹𝗵𝗼 – Vilarelho da Raia Singing Group and the Serra do Brunheiro Folklore Group;

• 𝟱 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 – Amizade Group;

• 𝟭𝟮 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 – Emigrants’ Festival, featuring a concert by the artist 𝗭𝗲́ 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗼;

• 𝟭𝟵 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 – Folk Dance Troupe of the Ases da Madalena Group and the Santo Estêvão Regional Dance and Song Group;

• 𝟮𝟲 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 – Cavaquinho Group of the Senior University and Santa Maria Maior Folk Group.
