Chaves | 25 April, Always!
Play by ABC Theatre – National Portuguese Theatre Company
This Portuguese theatre play has a historical, pedagogical, contemporary and interactive component. Written by Nuno Miguel Henriques, author and professor in the field of History, a cultural creator, son of an April military officer, who will be present to give a “prologue on the history of the Carnation Revolution”.
The standard characters are essentially popular and military, who take us on a journey through the historical events that marked this generation. The Places, the Sounds, the Streets, Democracy, the EEC, Economic Growth, Expo 98, the end of the Portuguese Administration in Macau, among other events that will be represented until the 50th anniversary of the revolution, commemorated on 25 April 2024.
The Carnation Revolution has become, with the distance of five decades, as well as the speed of recent globalisation events, a less exciting and sometimes even misunderstood subject. That’s why we’re trying today, in a simple and effective way, to turn it into something that students and the general public can understand.
Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained in advance from the Chaves Municipal Library and the Chaves Tourist Office.
