CIMAT Strengthened Territorial Promotion at the 35th Montalegre Smoked Meat Fair
The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega and Barroso (CIMAT) was present at the 35th Montalegre Smoked Meat Fair, which took place between January 22nd and 25th at the Montalegre Multipurpose Pavilion, as part of its strategy to promote and enhance the territory.
During the four days of the event, recognized as one of the most important gastronomic fairs in the country and widely known as the “Queen of Smoked Meats,” CIMAT ensured the dissemination of the tourist, cultural, and heritage potential not only of the municipality of Montalegre, but also of the entire Alto Tâmega and Barroso Region, with its own stand, promoting in an integrated way all the municipalities that make up this Intermunicipal Community: Boticas, Chaves, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços, and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
The 35th edition of the Smoked Meat Fair presented a diverse program focused on promoting traditional smoked meats and local products from the Montalegre municipality, complemented by cultural entertainment, cooking demonstrations, and initiatives promoting gastronomy and local traditions, attracting thousands of visitors to the town.
Among the thousands of visitors to this Fair were the Minister of Agriculture and the Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, the mayors of the municipalities in the region, and the First Intermunicipal Executive Secretary, Ramiro Gonçalves.
CIMAT’s participation in this event provided an opportunity to reinforce the visibility of the region, contribute to establishing Alto Tâmega and Barroso as a destination of excellence, and consolidate institutional coordination with municipalities and local stakeholders, in line with the objectives of sustainable development and territorial cohesion.
It should also be noted that CIMAT was simultaneously promoting the Alto Tâmega and Barroso region with another stand at FITUR 2026 – Madrid Tourism Fair.
