CIM Alto Tâmega e Barroso consolidates tourism promotion strategy at FITUR 2026

The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega and Barroso (CIMAT) was once again present at FITUR – Madrid International Tourism Fair, which took place between January 21 and 25, reinforcing its strategy of integrated promotion and affirmation of the Territory in an international context.

FITUR is one of the most important events in the European tourism sector, serving as an excellent platform for promoting destinations, establishing institutional and professional contacts, and developing opportunities for cooperation. It is particularly relevant for Alto Tâmega e Barroso as a region with strong tourism potential and proximity to a strategic market such as Spain.
As this is an eminently professional fair, CIMAT’s participation enabled it to establish various contacts with entities, operators, and agents in the sector, which could prove very fruitful for promoting the region, attracting new audiences, and enhancing the territory’s tourist appeal, while also contributing to boosting the local economy. In this sense, Alto Tâmega e Barroso was promoted as a unique, sustainable, and highly authentic tourist destination, highlighting its natural, cultural, and gastronomic resources, as well as the coordinated work carried out by the six municipalities that comprise it: Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços, and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.

Throughout the event, thousands of people visited the CIMAT stand, including the Deputy Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade, and Services, Pedro Machado, the President of Tourism for Porto and Northern Portugal, Luís Pedro Martins, the President of CIMAT, Fátima Fernandes, and the First Executive Secretary of CIMAT, Ramiro Gonçalves, as well as representatives from other intermunicipal communities.
CIMAT’s presence at FITUR 2026 is part of its ongoing work to consolidate the reputation of Alto Tâmega and Barroso on the main national and international stages of the tourism sector, reaffirming its commitment to a joint, structured promotion strategy geared towards the development of the Territory.

It should also be noted that during the same weekend, CIMAT was also promoting the entire territory with its own stand at the 35th Montalegre Smoked Meat Fair.
