Alto Tâmega and Barroso with four distinctions in the 2023 Five Star Regions Award
The Chaves Roman Baths Museum, Pisões dam, Friday the 13th and Serra do Alvão were distinguished this year in their categories in the district of Vila Real.
In the Museums category, the winner was the Chaves Roman Baths Museum. The Pisões Dam, in the municipality of Montalegre, was chosen in the Reserves/Landscapes/Dams category. In the Festivals, Fairs and Pilgrimages category, the winner of the Vila Real district was Friday the 13th, an event held in the heart of the village of Montalegre. Finally, in the Sierras/Mountains category, Serra do Alvão, which includes, among others, the municipalities of Ribeira de Pena and Vila Pouca de Aguiar, was the big winner.
The 2023 Five Star Regions Award was based on a system for evaluating the degree of satisfaction of the brand among consumers.
In order to reach the winners of this award, which is now in its 6th edition, 436 thousand consumers were involved who evaluated around 900 brands. Of these, only 116 were awarded, among which 34 belong to the northern region of the country.
With these distinctions, the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega and Barroso (CIMAT) – formed by the municipalities of Boticas, Chaves, Montalegre, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar – sees its affirmation as a tourist destination of excellence even more pronounced.
In addition to these, Ótica Transmontana was also distinguished on a private basis, in the Optical Services category, which, in the municipalities of CIMAT, has stores in Chaves, Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
