Senhor do Monte Sanctuary
por pessoa
It dates back to the beginning of the 19th century when a cross dedicated to Bom Jesus do Monte Senhor dos Perdidos was erected on the site of Seixas da Pena. As it was located next to the road along which many muleteers used to pass, ensuring the trade route between Ribeira de Oura and the Barroso area, many turned to divine protection in the face of the difficulties along the way and fear of being attacked by wild beasts or thieves. Faith grew and with it almsgiving, so that in 1821 construction began on the Church of Senhor do Monte and the following year the Feast of Bom Jesus do Monte Senhor dos Aflitos began to be held, which was then added to the Feast of St James.
