Santa Maria Maior Church – Parish Church of Chaves
$1 por pessoa
The first documentary references to this church appear in the Afonsinas Inquiries of 1259. The Romanesque church was possibly built in the 12th century on Visigothic foundations. It is a medieval, Mannerist and late Baroque church with a longitudinal plan, three naves and five sections.
The bell tower, portico and some sculptures remain from the medieval building.
The interior space preserves the original medieval structure, especially the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, attached to the chancel.
