Pillory of Chaves
por pessoa
The 16th-century pillory, with a Manueline-style granite ashlar structure, consists of five steps, a pedestal and, at the top, on a large parallelepiped chamfered at the angles and moulded below and above, it has a capital, with an inverted truncated pyramid carved on the sides, which displays the armillary sphere and the municipality’s coat of arms. The Chaves pillory was built as a symbol of judicial autonomy.
