Our Lady of Guia Chapel

Our Lady of Guia Chapel stands on one of the slopes of Alvão and is the stage for the biggest pilgrimage in the municipality.
Consecrated as the county’s patron saint in 1952, it involves the devotion of the people of Trás-os-Montes and Minho, who religiously attend its procession every 15 August and keep their promises around the chapel. It is a beautiful example of rural baroque, with a portal topped by a niche in which the image of Senhora da Guia is depicted in granite.
Camilo Castelo Branco includes it in the Sixth of his ‘Twelve Happy Marriages’.
