Monforte de Rio Livre Castle

Most of the complex currently built dates from the end of the 13th century and the first half of the following century. After the charter of King Afonso III was passed in 1273, the (re)construction of the fortress continued during the reign of King Dinis and was completed in the first half of the 14th century, when the presence of a mayor in the town is documented and there was a strong growth in the urban area. The keep is the main remaining element and the one that gives the castle its military image par excellence.
