Fort of San Francisco
$1 por pessoa
The fort dates back to the Franciscan Convent of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which was transformed into a fortification in 1658. A Mannerist and late-Baroque fort, it has a regular star-shaped plan and four bastions at the apexes. Its walls are clad in granite, 1 metre thick and varying in height between 4 and 20 metres. It is currently home to a hotel and you can visit the Chapel of St Francis, which housed the tomb of the first Duke of Bragança for three centuries.
