Fafião Fojo (wolf trap)

The fojo is a permanent, communal trap used to capture wolves. Usually built from stone and without mortar, it was strategically located in areas where packs passed through.
Today, this heritage asset of great ethnographic, scientific and cultural importance serves as the natural setting for the Aldeia de Lobos Festival, held in the village of Fafião. And the wolf, once persecuted, is now a symbol of the brand, identification and promotion of this ‘village of wolves’.
