Chapel of St Catherine

A religious architectural space of Mannerist and Baroque inspiration. The chapel’s façade displays an image of St Catherine and the inscription: ‘This Chapel was founded in the site of Toural in the era of 1287, which corresponds to the year of Christ 1249’. The main portal reads: ‘This chapel was moved by Prince Pedro, Governor of this Kingdom, from the site of Toural because it jeopardised the fortification at the request of the administrator Gregório de Castro Moraes, Commander of the Order of Christ, Nobleman of the House of His Highness, Sergeant Major of Batalha, governing the Arms of the Province’, referring to ‘the year 1681’.
