“Scrooge” from 1935
Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is undoubtedly one of the great Christmas stories that has been adapted by various authors for the big screen over the years. But the first version filmed with sound dates back to 1935, directed by Henry Edwards, and it’s this version that we’re highlighting this Christmas season at our Cineclube de Chaves. In this British version entitled Scrooge, we can see an excellent adaptation of Dickens’ own words in a film that lasts just over an hour and manages to approach several scenes in a completely different way to previous ones.
