Montalegre | Livestock competition

The first Barrosã breed livestock competition of the year in the municipality of Montalegre will be held this Saturday in the parish of Venda Nova. The event is organised by the Venda Nova and Pondras parish councils, with the collaboration of Montalegre Town Council, under the guidance and regulation of the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) and with the support of the Barrosã Breeders’ Association (AMIBA).
This Barrosã breed competition, founded by Carlos Machado (who was honoured), aims to guide breeders towards the most desirable type and ethnic characteristics, stimulate cattle production in the region, value the efforts of breeders in maintaining this indigenous breed and promote the breed as an important component in preserving the rural world.
