Born in Beça, Boticas, Florinda Pereira Fernandes’s life has been deeply shaped by her study and teaching of the exact sciences.
With a solid academic foundation built in both Portugal and Angola, the artist, now retired, has found a new form of expression, making a fascinating transition: from the world of the exact sciences to abstract artistic expression. As a self-taught painter, Florinda Pereira Fernandes has now freed herself from formulas and metrics, exploring on the canvas the intuition and subjectivity that abstractionism allows, revealing that the precision of mathematics and the sensitivity of art can coexist in the same gaze.

Abstract art is a style that breaks with the figurative representation of reality, focusing on shapes, colours, lines and textures to evoke emotions and sensations. It is a distinctive form of expression that invites the viewer to feel, rather than merely recognise, the image.
