Chaves | Only what isn’t there exists

“Macbeth” is a play about misunderstanding. General Macbeth is a character “whose clothes do not fit him well”, who refuses to accept the absurdity of real life. He therefore fails to understand the values of Good, as perceived by those who live in the world, subject to the essential absurdity of existence.
Adopting an “imaginative” attitude, M. plunges into the delusion of attempting to realise (make real) the imaginary (the unreal). He regards what exists (is) as an imperfect and confused apparition of what might be, becoming disinterested in real objects.
The images of “greatness” are beautiful. The attributes of real greatness uninteresting. M. lives as if in a dream, in a delusion, progressively discovering his own moral capacities (and the viewer with him) until, with Lady Macbeth dead, he concludes:
Life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing…

It is the final delusion.
