Chaves | Exhibition Fernando Lanhas : Man is a Magisterial Phenomenon
Fernando Lanhas (Porto, 1923-2012) is one of the most prominent figures in 20th century Portuguese art. His painting pioneered the introduction of geometric abstractionism in Portugal from the mid-1940s onwards. The exhibition brings together a very significant group of his works, both from the Serralves Collection and from the generous and particularly relevant deposit of his work agreed over more than twenty years in dialogue with the artist. Thus, the group of works on display bears witness to the multiplicity of areas that the artist explored and, in this sense, provides a unique opportunity to understand the simultaneous and reconcilable diversity and coherence of one of the most fascinating works of the second half of the last century. This exhibition, curated by Marta Almeida, is part of the Serralves Collection’s Itinerant Exhibitions Programme, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to diverse audiences in all regions of the country.
Opening on 18 June, at 6pm, at MACNA – Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art.
