The city of Chaves is preparing to celebrate the magic of the Christmas season between 29 November and 31 December.

The traditional children’s carousel will once again be part of the festivities, a space designed to welcome families and anyone who wants to experience the spirit of the season. Children will be able to visit Father Christmas’ house, write their letters and immerse themselves in moments of fantasy and entertainment. At the Mercadinho, located in Largo General Silveira, you will find handicrafts, sweets, liqueurs, jams and other typical delicacies, ideal for gift-giving at this time of year.

The official opening will take place on 1 December at 2.30 pm, with a parade featuring more than 300 participants. The Christmas parade will start at Praça de Camões and end at Largo General Silveira, popularly known as ‘Largo das Freiras’. The end of the afternoon will be marked by the traditional lighting of the Christmas lights and Christmas tree, scheduled for 5.30 pm.
The ‘Chaves Natal’ programme and the entertainment in the historic centre also include various cultural events, such as creative workshops, musical performances, dance shows, choir meetings, among others. Entertainment is guaranteed every weekend and on public holidays.

The Christmas Market will be open Monday to Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On 24 and 31 December, it will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and closed on 25 December.
