“Nena” and “Os Quatro e Meia” headline the Chaves City Festivities 2024
This year’s commemoration of City and County Day features a programme from 5 to 8 July, with performances by nationally renowned artists.
The festivities will kick off with a performance by Chaves En’Dança, to be held on 5 July (Friday) at 9pm in Largo General Silveira, with more than 300 male and female dancers aged between 2 and 18 taking part on stage.
On Saturday 6 July, the programme features a philharmonic concert in the Public Gardens at 9pm, given by the Torre de Ervededo and Vila Verde da Raia music bands, with DJ FINO performing in the Alameda de Trajano and DJ WILD in the gardens of the MACNA – Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art. In this riverside space, at 11pm, “Os Quatro e Meia” (The Four and a Half) perform a much-anticipated concert. The evening continues at midnight with a performance by DJ WILD in the MACNA Gardens and a performance by DJ FINO in the Alameda de Trajano.
The programme for Sunday 7 July includes another philharmonic concert, this time by the Banda Musical de Rebordondo and Banda Municipal Flaviense “Os Pardais”, at 9pm in the Public Gardens, and a performance by DJ Miguel Rendeiro in the Alameda de Trajano. NENA takes to the stage at 11pm in the MACNA Gardens and promises to enchant with a memorable show. At midnight, DJ MIGUEL RENDEIRO will perform in the Alameda de Trajano.
City and Municipality Day, a municipal holiday on Monday 8 July, will be marked with the raising of the National Flag in Praça de Camões and the usual Municipal Decorations Ceremony, which will take place outdoors in the Torre de Menagem garden.
This festive day will also include children’s entertainment from 14:30 to 18:00 in the Alameda de Trajano and another philharmonic concert by the Loivos and Outeiro Seco Bands in the Public Garden at 21:00.
The festivities will be brought to a close by FUNÇÃO PÚBLIKA, who will liven up the evening from 10.30pm, an event that will culminate with a grand pyrotechnic show at midnight on the banks of the River Tâmega.
The commemorations celebrate the achievement of the “Heroes of Chaves”, who on 8 July 1912, in a heroic act by the people of Flavi, fought in defence of their ideals.
