Chaves | BULAKNA
BULAKNA takes its name from an ancient Filipino warrior who resisted colonial invasion. A portrait of strength and inequality, the film follows Filipino women who today face a new form of colonisation: forced labour migration. Working as domestic workers in foreign countries, thousands of Filipino women sustain other nations’ economies, working as carers and leaving their own families behind, in limbo, in their homeland. Trapped in a global logic that turns care into a commodity, they live torn between providing for their families and longing for them, between duty and absence.
