Boticas | 7th Boticas Theatre Festival – The Werewolf

This comedy by Camilo Castelo Branco is set in Ribeira de Pena, a village where the author studied Latin, enjoyed himself and got up to mischief in his early youth.

It tells the story of João da Eira, whose wife is a maid and whose daughter is a beggar, because both of them saw a werewolf dancing at a crossroads. The news spreads and terror takes hold of the region.

The events of the play unfold amid vivid scenes of rural life in Alto Tâmega in Camilo’s time, which gives us, in O Lobisomem, a faithful and humorous picture of life, culture and even the local way of speaking in his time.

The sets are by André Graça Gomes and Paulo Pires, the costumes by Graça Inácio and the staging by Hermínio Chaves Fernandes.

The play features live music, with the participation of the Chaves violinist Mariana Parasense.
