Roman Abobeleira Dam
por pessoa
The dam was built at the mouth of the Sanjurge stream, in Abobeleira, near Chaves. Discovered at the end of the 1980s and the subject of archaeological excavations, this structure is made up of granite blocks in opus incertum and connected by opus caementicium.
It is possible that the dam was built with the specific purpose of supplying water to the ancient city of Aquae Flaviae, to which it would be transported via a canal located downstream of the wall.
