The Wire Bridge, which connects Ribeira to Santo Aleixo de Além-Tâmega, was built in the early 20th century. There are at least records that it existed during the First World War, and it has been used until the present day. Actually. its use only became unnecessary after 1963, the year the Tâmega crossing was inaugurated through the beautiful granite arch bridge, built one hundred metres upstream.

Nowadays it is used by the riverside populations and arouses the curiosity of many visitors, who find the charm of other ages in it.
