Montalegre Castle
$1 por pessoa
Located in the village of Montalegre, with Gothic and romantic characteristics, it is one of the most beautiful examples of medieval military architecture in northern Portugal. The first reference to this fortification dates from the Charter of Montalegre, granted by D. Afonso III, on June 9, 1273. The Keep, approximately 30 meters high, is connected to the Queen’s Tower, the Clock Tower and to the Paiol/Pólvora tower, by a semicircle wall. In the Plaza de Armas, it houses a cistern, with a depth of more than 20 meters, rectangular in shape, completely built in granite.
