Chaves Public Garden

Located on the banks of the River Tâmega, it is the oldest green space in the city. Before it was transformed into a public garden at the beginning of the 20th century, it was privately owned and donated to the town by Cândido Sotto Mayor. A bust was built in his honour on the garden’s main avenue. It is flanked by a simple watercourse, populated by leafy and welcoming trees, pretty flower beds and the traditional bandstand.
