Montalegre | Family in Misarela: Portraits in Memories

Exhibition “Family in Misarela: Portraits and Memories” moves to the Barroso Ecomuseum with an opening ceremony and book presentation

After its debut at the iconic Misarela Bridge, where it was part of the open-air theatre show “Family in Misarela: Rites of Life”, the photographic and documentary exhibition that emerged from this artistic and community project now moves on to the Barroso Ecomuseum – Espaço Padre Fontes, in Montalegre.

The inauguration is scheduled for 14 August at 4 pm and will be followed by the presentation of the book ‘Histórias e Lendas da Ponte da Misarela’ (Stories and Legends of the Misarela Bridge), written by Manuel Afonso Machado, which reinforces the legendary and cultural dimension of the place.

The exhibition is the result of intensive work collecting testimonies conducted by journalist Maria José Afonso, with photographic records by David Araújo, and presents portraits and life stories linked to the myths and fertility rituals associated with the Misarela Bridge. The dramaturgy of the show that gave rise to the exhibition was staged by Maíra Ribeiro, author of the project, in a creative process that combined oral tradition, collective memory and contemporary artistic expression.

Open until 12 October, the exhibition promotes a sensitive reflection on the region’s intangible heritage, linking the past to the present through images and narratives deeply rooted in the identity of Trás-os-Montes.

The exhibition is an initiative promoted by the Parish Council of Ferral and the Municipality of Montalegre, with the aim of enhancing local culture and the territory through dialogue between performing arts, memory and heritage.
