Montalegre | Exhibition “Minas da Borralha: the last shift”
The Barroso Ecomuseum is a ‘space of memory dedicated to creating development’. As a space of memory, we have an obligation not to forget and to remember significant events in the region.
On 14 January 1986, in the village of Minas da Borralha, the concessionaire requested the suspension of the Couto Mineiro da Borralha mining plan, abruptly disrupting the way of life, dynamism and development of this old mining village.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Minas da Borralha: the last shift’, on display from 14 January at the Barroso Ecomuseum – Minas da Borralha Interpretation Centre, aims to address this event 40 years after the mine’s closure and provoke reflection on the social, economic and human impacts of this closure. Through various testimonies, documents and objects, this exhibition seeks to give a voice to those who lived through the “last shift”.
