Montalegre | XIV Medronheiro Trail
Get ready for an immersion in nature and history! The Medronheiro Trail returns as one of the classic and most emblematic events of the Vezeira de Fafião Association.
The nine-and-a-half-kilometre adventure begins at the Barroso Ecomuseum, Fafião Centre. From here, the route takes us to the mythical Fojo do Lobo, where the ancient monument evokes local history and sets the tone for the walk. As usual on our pilgrimage, Alcides Afonso will explain the history of Man and Wolf to our visitors.
This trail is a harmonious fusion of the natural and rural environments of excellence. As usual, this year we have once again kept the usual route of the initial editions. Let yourself be enveloped by the splendour of the native vegetation: beech, oak and chestnut trees and, of course, the abundant strawberry trees, which give this event its name.
Along the way, you are almost certain to find wild mushrooms and the first arbutus berries, which are already sprouting in our woods.
One of the highlights of the route is the passage through Dornas, an area of great importance to the village. This is where the Fafião River joins the Cávado River after a fourteen-kilometre course.
Halfway along the trail, take a moment to pause. A unique panoramic view awaits you, overlooking the impressive Fecha de Barjas, one of the most renowned waterfalls in the region.

Our events since 2023 have been paid for in advance, and 2025 will be no exception. Therefore, we ask that the amount be transferred and validated by emailing proof of bank transfer to eventosvezeira@gmail.com. After we receive the necessary proof, such as the names of those registered through this proof, we will validate the registration, and you will receive a confirmation email.
If you have a group of more than 8 people to register, you can do so via our email, sending, in addition to the proof of registration, the information we request, full name and tax identification number of each participant.
