Elements of the Forest Sapper Brigades of the Alto T\u00e2mega e Barroso Intermunicipal Community (CIMAT) will be travelling to all the region’s school groups on Monday and Tuesday 11 and 12 November, respectively, in order to celebrate Magusto with the school community.
\nFollowing the success of this initiative last year, CIMAT decided to continue it in order to raise the profile of this endogenous product, raise awareness and provide information about the importance of chestnuts in the region’s financial balance, while at the same time bringing the school community into direct contact with the \u2018protectors of the forest\u2019, who have a very important role to play in preventing forest fires, which pose a potential risk to the region’s extensive area of chestnut groves.
\nDuring this educational event, the students will be served Padrela PDO chestnuts, certified Organic. The Serra da Padrela is one of Portugal’s main chestnut production centres, home to the largest continuous chestnut grove in the entire Iberian Peninsula and the largest Jewish chestnut grove in Europe.
\nIn addition to their presence in the schools, the Forest Sappers will also be in front of the Alto T\u00e2mega e Barroso Tourist Office on 12 November, from 3pm to 5pm, roasting chestnuts to hand out to everyone who passes by.<\/p>\n
