Chaves | Painting What Remains – Maria Guerreiro
On display until 30 June,
Monday to Saturday, 2 pm to 6 pm
Maria Guerreiro (Chaves, 2005) An emerging artist from Chaves, with roots in Vidago, is currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at the University of Minho. Her artistic practice, centred primarily on painting, stems from the observation of everyday life and the way we relate to it, translating into images what she feels from what she sees. The works on display serve as sensitive records of these encounters, not in a literal sense, but through her personal assimilation, seeking to capture gestures, atmospheres and relationships rather than specific events. Since 2024, she has been exhibiting in various contexts, taking part in group exhibitions in Guimarães, Barreiro and Porto, and holding two solo exhibitions in 2025 in Chaves, progressively establishing her promising artistic career.
Exhibition ‘Painting What Remains’
The exhibition focuses on painting as the artist’s primary form of expression, developed through the observation of everyday life and human relationships. The works do not seek to represent reality literally, but rather to convey personal sensations and experiences, capturing gestures, atmospheres, ways of being and perceptions. Each painting functions as a sensitive record of these encounters with the world, the result of the artist’s individual process of assimilation and interpretation.
