DESCRIPTION:In 2018, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) recognised the Barroso region as a World Agricultural Heritage Site, making it the only Portuguese territory to receive this award\nThe award is based on the traditions that the people of Barroso maintain in their relationship with the environment in activities such as agriculture, forestry and grazing.\nWith human occupation for thousands of years, this territory maintains a rural subsistence economy and vast, relatively unspoilt natural areas, preserving a genuine landscape of perfect coexistence between man and nature.\nIt is in this unique territory, moulded by the hand of man and polished by nature, that we will be taking this ‘Barroso World Agricultural Heritage Trails’ walk, certainly one of the most beautiful areas in the north of Portugal.\nStarting in the unspoilt village of Vilarinho Seco, Boticas, we’ll be travelling through the landscapes, paths and tracks, levadas and quelhas typical of the region, where even today cattle, shepherds and farmers help to maintain the region’s natural beauty.\nThis is a circular trail of approximately 10 kilometres of moderate difficulty due to the type of surface, which is mostly made up of smooth stones and areas of running water.\n
