SUMMARY:World Tourism Day
DESCRIPTION:The municipality will mark World Tourism Day on 27 September with a series of activities aimed at highlighting the cultural, social and economic value of the sector in Chaves.\nThus, in the morning, starting at 10.30am, there will be a walk along the Tâmega and Corgo International Ecovia, lasting approximately one hour. The meeting point will be next to the Municipal Swimming Pools. In the afternoon, from the Chaves Tourist Office at 2.30pm, there will be a guided tour of the city to explore its culture, history and architecture. Both activities are free, but require prior registration. Those interested should register at the Chaves Tourist Office (in Praça de Camões) or by contacting: turismo@chaves.pt | 276 348 180.\nOn this day, those interested will also be able to take the opportunity to visit the municipality’s museum network, taking into account the free admission practised throughout the year, at the Roman Medicinal Baths Museum, the Flaviense Region Museum, the Railway Museum, the Chaves Castle Tower, the João Vieira House-Museum in Vidago and the Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art, the latter on Sunday mornings for national residents.\nIt should be noted that the municipality has an extremely rich historical and cultural heritage, which is highly visible in its various museums, which can be a bridge between local culture and global culture, and has seen a large increase in visitors in recent years.\nWorld Tourism Day is celebrated annually on 27 September. This day aims to show the importance of tourism and its cultural, economic, political and social value, through initiatives in various countries around the world.\n‘Tourism and Peace’ is the theme chosen to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day, bringing together two extremely significant themes: tourism as the representation of a bridge for the spread of understanding, co-operation, tolerance and respect between all nations. And peace, as a means of ensuring that people can develop fully in a positive environment where they can live together in harmony with other individuals.\n
