SUMMARY:Presentation of the book “Travelling with… Luís de Camões”
DESCRIPTION:Recent studies and theses point to the birth of Portugal’s greatest poet, Luís de Camões, in the village of Vilar de Nantes, in the municipality of Chaves, where his father, Simão Vaz de Camões, was born and his paternal grandparents lived, as documented in the archives of the Archdiocese of Braga.\nThe poet’s grandparents, Antão Vaz and Guiomar Vaz, were born in Coimbra and would have moved to this parish when they were young, where they lived in a granite house (with their eight male children), still known today as the “house of Camões’ grandparents”, as genealogical, epigraphic and heraldic research has shown.\nA few months before the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the author of “Os Lusíadas”, the book “Travelling with… Luís de Camões” was launched as part of the collection “Travelling with… The Paths of Literature”, published by the Northern Regional Directorate for Culture, which aims to publicise the writers who were born in the north of Portugal, who lived and worked here, who passed through here or who addressed this territory in their work.\nThe book on the famous poet will be launched in Chaves next Friday, 10 November, at 5pm, at the Museu da Região Flaviense.\nAuthored by Professor Doctor Seabra Pereira and published by OPERA OMNIA, this volume takes us on a journey with Luís de Camões through various geographies and establishes bridges to his possible origins in Flavi.\nThe presentation of the work will feature music with themes from Camonian poetry, by the Choir of the Professional Course for Instrumentalists of the Chaves Arts Academy and the Children’s Choir of the Dr Júlio Martins School Group.\n
